System:XP

From DevilshireWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Experience Points (XP) are granted by staff to players running plots, plot-related scenes, or social events, and players participating in plots and plot-related scenes. They are also granted by players via the use of +votes, and the +rec command.

You gain .05 XP per vote and up to .5 xp for a +rec. Guidelines for submitting recommendations can be +help +rec.

There is a cap on how much XP you can earn in a certain time period. No one can gain more than 10 experience points per month, including XP gained by +votes.

Attributes

You can increase each of your attributes (strength, dexterity, intelligence, etc.) only once per six months or so. The maximum attribute level for humans is 6. The maximum for supernatural beings is 10.

Cost: 5 points x new level
Minimum Cost: 15 points

Skills

Skills can only be raised one point at a time but an individual skill can be raised multiple times over the course of your PC's lifetime. There is no limit to how high a skill can climb, though higher level skills cost more points than low level ones. When buying a skill a character doesn't already have, the first level costs five points.

Cost:
Up to level 6: 2 points x new level
Level 7 and up: 3 points x new level
New Skill: 5 points

Spells

Spellcasters can add additional spells to their grimoire for a base cost of 2 points x spell PL. Additional modifiers that may apply are listed below:

+.5 to the multiplier if the spell is more than 2 levels above the caster's casting level.
+1 to the multiplier if the spell is more than 5 levels above the caster's casting level.
-.5 to the multiplier if the spell is more than 2 levels below the caster's casting level.

Variable spells always count as level 1 spells, but never get any kind of XP discount based on level. They are always 2 XP.

Please also note that levels of Occult Library offer a culmulative 5% discount on XP costs for picking up a new spell, so be sure to include that in your request!

Qualities

Some qualities can be purchased after character generation. Instead of creating a definite list of which can be purchased and which can't, we'll just say that you need to justify any quality you wish to either gain or increase. Staff will be very strict in allowing XP spends on qualities.

Cost: 3 points x chargen quality cost

Drawbacks

It is possible to buy off drawbacks after character generation. Like buying qualities, this requires justification and the reasons will be subject to rigorous staff review.

Cost: 3 points x chargen drawback reward

Additional Notes

In addition to actual XP points, XP spends also might require logs as proof that your character has been training, learning, or otherwise seeking to improve. The general rule of thumb is that you need a number of logs showing your training equal to the new number of the stat. If you have questions about logs and XP, contact staff. If it is felt that an XP expenditure will require a PRP or series of PRPs to justify it, the PGM needs to +pitch it so staff get a heads up. Note that approval of said +pitch does not equate a pre-approval of the expenditure.
