System:Drama Points

Drama points are the difference between heroic daring do and a permanent trip six feet down in the ground. Each character starts with either ten or twenty drama points depending on type. Heroes are capped at fifteen drama points, Investigators at twenty-five. Investigators get more drama points than Heroes because they're more likely to need the extra help when battling the forces of wanting-to-kill-them.

Drama points are earned in the following three ways:

Participating in PrPs:
PGMs have the opportunity to award drama points to the participating players at the conclusion of a PrP by putting in a request with staff. Drama reward for a PRP works as such: 1 DP for the first three participants, .5 DP for every participant over. It will be up to the PGM to elect how these drama points are awarded. If a PGM runs a scene with four PCs in it the PGM has 1.5 DP to divvy up among those players in any way they see fit (.3 for one person, .2 for another, 1 for another, etc.) If a PGM runs a scene with 6 people, they have 2.5 DP to divvy up. This drama reward should be submitted with a +rec giving the name of the plot, a link to the log and the way you, as the PGM, would want the drama split up. Aside from this, PGMs cannot +rec people in their own plots for further drama. In an instance where there are fewer than three players, drama will not be rewarded. Please note that PGMs do NOT count towards the player total even if their PC participates in the scene.

+recs
Players are encouraged to +rec one another for particularly dramatic scenes or poses. Include in your +rec the person you are recommending for bonus drama and a link to the log. Sample poses are also appreciated. Drama rewards for a +rec are likely to be about .5 DP.

+votes
+votes give drama at a total of .025 per vote.

You are welcome to spend drama points however and whenever you like, but keep in mind you have a limited supply. Spend them wisely. Drama points may be spent in the following ways:

Contents

Heroic Feats

A drama point can be spent to give a +10 bonus to any roll. This includes attack, skill, and defense rolls. You must declare the intention to perform a heroic feat before you roll. Also, you can only perform one heroic feat per round.

I Think I'm Okay

Sometimes it only looks like you got really, seriously hurt. In reality, they hit some soft tissue or you managed to roll with the punch or something equally convenient. You can spend a drama point to regain half the total damage you've taken up until that point. So, if you have lost a total of 30 life points in a fight, you'll gain back 15 life points, even if your last wound only caused you 5 life points worth of damage. You can only do this once per round and only at the top of the round, before the first action.

Plot Twist

Spending a drama point can cause something to go right for you when everything seems to be going wrong. It might get you a vital clue or help you escape that deadly spell being cast upon you. Essentially, spending a drama point for a plot twist is asking the staff member of PGM to throw a wrench in the clockwork. The idea behind a plot twist is to give you a chance to overcome a problem. It isn't to give you an automatic solution. It is more akin to getting a clue to solving the riddle than getting the riddle itself. You can only spend a drama point on a plot twist once per episode or PRP and the person running the scene always has the option of turning the request down if they think it isn't feasible.

Righteous Fury

Someone killed your lover and left his head in your fridge. Some punks trashed your business and livelihood. When something happens to truly, utterly piss you off down to your very core, you can spend two hero points to activate righteous fury. For the rest of the fight, you gain a +5 to all attack actions. The person running the scene determines if you have just cause for righteous fury. A good example of this from the shows is when Giles attacked Angelus shortly after Jenny Calendar's murder. Normally, Giles wouldn't have much of a chance against Angelus. As furious as Giles was, however, he was able to smack Angelus around with that flaming baseball bat pretty well for a while.

Note that this isn't 'I am very upset/angry' this is 'I am shattered to my very core'. You don't get a Righteous Fury spend because someone keyed your car.

Back From the Dead

If your character dies drama points can be spent for a possible return from the dead. This is better detailed in Death, but please keep in mind your character cannot die and come back from the dead without spending the proper amount of drama points. Seriously. Don't try to have your character die and come back without spending the drama points necessary. Don't plan a big major scene where your character dies and comes back immediately if you do not have 10 drama points at the ready. Besides the fact that you shouldn't be scripting your RP out, that's just silly.
