Help:Character Types

From DevilshireWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Devilshire makes use of two different basic levels of character: Investigator and Hero. The terms indicate a basic level of raw power and are not literal. Investigator level characters don't always have to investigate and Hero level characters might promote the cause of themselves instead of truth, justice, and apple pie. Neither character type is more important than the other when it comes to plots or RP.

Investigators

While Investigators can be heroic, they haven't gone through the trials and tribulations of a Hero character yet. These can be the common folk who end up thrust into the world of the supernatural or the people who have yet to come into their own. Investigators might be very skilled; they might even have powers or have had training, but they haven't really done much with either yet. Maybe they're just starting out or maybe they're more comfortable with someone else rushing to the forefront of the fight--maybe they'd rather avoid fighting at all and focus all their attention on their latest projects or obsessions. Or maybe you just didn't have a Hero slot open. Either way, Investigators are more skilled than Hero characters but less experienced.

Heroes

You don't have to be heroic to be a Hero, but you do have to have gone through some serious trials and tribulations in your life to qualify. Heroes are people who have been through the wringer and back again--for better or for worse. Maybe they won, maybe they lost, maybe they hate what they became or maybe they love it, but these are people who aren't just starting out in life. They're living it and loving it or living it and hating it, either way, they're probably living it dangerously. While you don't need to have been involved in the supernatural, it certainly helps. Heroes are less skilled than Investigators, but more experienced. Their extra attribute and quality points should reflect this. If you find yourself struggling with unspent quality points or attributes, it is entirely possible you should be building an Investigator level character instead.
