Desmond Carr is a freshman at DevU. He's also a wannabe Paladin who has, according to him, devoted his life to protecting the often not-really-helpless and fighting evil, whatever he decides that may be.

Life Thus Far

Early Years

There is not much to say, really. Desmond's father was a middling entrepreneur who travelled quite often. Incidentily the family moved around the world, during those formative years. His mother, being a history teacher, brought the family into the Society for Creative Anachronism and they continued to bee active members within the society. As such, Carr grew up within a subculture known for its' ...oddities.

In elementary school, the boy was known to be someone to go to when the other kids needed help, be it bullies or help with homework. Not that he did exceptionally well in school - just well enough. It grew apparent that he was indeed different from the rest of the kids, and those who avidly watched teenaged dramas called him a 'geek', though never to his face. He did, after all, play rugby, and the other students knew what that meant.

That would have probably ended up with Des taking off his glove and throwing it at the offender. Yes, Desmond Arthur Carr grew up on certain stories. With bedtime stories about knights rescueing fair damsels in distress, who could blame the kid?

Awakening

Junior High came along, finding Desmond engrossed in tabletop roleplaying games. The D20 system, to be specific. Yes, Dungeons & Dragons. In this he managed to 'live' the life he never had. No, no, not killing monsters and taking all the loot but rescueing poor little urchin slaves. Combined with his life in the SCA, the boy was, uh, overly imaginative. Or lacked it, depending on the perspective.

At the beginning of 7th grade, the Carrs moved to Oregon, where things would get interesting for the perhaps too-honest Desmond. For one thing, the local 'barony' was better populated and equipped than the one he had been attending. It's also where he met Melissa Faber, a girl two years older whose SCA family forced her to tag along.

Desmond was stricken after months of being with the girl - they had grown close, as friends. Melissa thought of him as the little brother she never had. He had other ideas. Upon reciting a poem he wrote in her honour and offering to fight a tournament, also in her honour, he was promptly laughed at and rejected. While quite hardy when it came to most things, Desmond couldn't - and can't take being spurned by the one he cared about the most. In an effort to forget, he distanced himself from her, ending the friendship.

Oddly enough, he got close to Mr. Faber, an SCA man who would often take the youths hiking, camping, canoeing and the like. On one such trip, there were other hikers. Hikers with deformed faces and fangs. Mr. Faber managed to defend the group, and while he managed to explain everything away, Des didn't quite buy it. Curiousity did not quite kill him - at least, yet.

Hunting in the Dark

He did find out about everything, though. Creatures of the night and all. Mr. Faber brought him into his circle of Demon Hunters, and Des took to it like a fish to water. He enjoyed 'saving the world' every other night. He was taught almost everything the group knew, about killing those...beasts.

He was, however, experimented upon. Mr. Faber had made a deal with an Ethros demon in order to take out a nest of vampires with hired Kailiff henchmen. Of course, the last thing he did was trust the demon, so he let the thing possess the hapless Desmond.

Desmond, being filled with a strong sense of honour, chivalric duty, and a love of high fantasy never did realize what happened that night. Instead, he attributed his temporary empowerment and memory loss as a miracle bestowed by a God, a divine patron.

Destiny

Yep. Desmond figured he was born to fight off evil, chosen by someone probably very much like Helm or Lathander, gods in the D&D worlds he used to game in. Fired with purpose, he started demon hunting on his own, more vigorously than ever before.

Which was okay with one or two run-of-the-mill demons at a time. One of these days, though, he might not be as lucky as he's been. Recently, his family moved from his beloved Oregon, to somewhere north of Boston. A little town called Devilshire. Still believing utterly in himself, he is intent on finding out about the local supernatural community, to continue his work.

Little does he know.

Personality

Desmond is a fairly open kid when it comes to most things. He can always be counted upon, except when he has higher priorities. Like destroying evil. Once given, his word is irrevocable. With his peers, he's generally likeable and usually goes out of his way to meet new people. The 'emo' kids tend to find him overly optimistic and painfully positive. Whenever there's some sort of adventure to be had, normal or otherwise, he's always the first to try, from bungee jumping to wasabi. In fact, he occasionally throws himself at danger.

People

Family

His parents are both SCA fanatics, or used to be in their younger years. Mrs. Carr is a history teach turned homemaker while Mr. Carr is an entrepreneur. They've both been supportive and loving parents, if a bit eccentric.

If you'd like to play either of his parents, send Desmond an email, @mail, or whatever. Besides their actors, outward personalities, and professions, everything else is open.

Siblings - Desmond has them. They're all younger. Same as above if you'd like to play one, except these are more of a blank slate.

Friends

Scout Smith - Gypsy number two, Sebastian's little sister. She is responsible for patching up what was left of the friendship between Sebastian and me. And the most important thing to me. Also, she is now my GIRLFRIEND! OMG!

Amria DeSoto - Close friend.

Rabbit Evans - Employee at Tirer La Couture, apparently, he's a magic user of some sort. I suspect we survived that love-dovey night without spilling anything because of him. I think he may be the one Scout had a thing for. Not sure. Anyway, nice guy, despite the whole Sebastian v. Evans thing. Yes. I don't like calling a guy 'Rabbit'.

I think I know of them

Keith Sullivan - Irishman I met at the Bohemian. Nice guy.
Phillip Harget - Friend of Scout's. Teaches Mythology at DevU.
Louis Laroche - Friend of Mr. Harget's?

Recent Events

Episode 11, More Than A Feeling: Desmond goes to an unexpected karaoke night at the Penalty Box, where he falls in love with Zhou for the night. The rest of the patrons go similiarly crazy, before they get saved from embarassment by Rabbit.
DevHS Homecoming 2008: Sebastian, Amria, Scout and Desmond go on a double date to Homecoming, which goes just fine- if it wasn't for a drunk, leery teenager whom Ms. Argyros takes care of.
If You Go Down to the Woods Tonight: Mr. Kane and Desmond look for the hired Gri'ah that are supposedly hiring vamps. They find them, unfortunately with Amria in tow. She takes a bullet to the knee while Clifford and Kelly's unexpected appearance probably saved their lives.
It had 5 legs and Patrick Duffy for a head...: Pandemonium erupts at the beach when blue-blooded cultists attempt to summon a Q'rpa demon. Desmond passes out from blood loss and is brought to the hospital by Yvonne and her pet vampire.
Shouldn't Swim in the Ocean: Marley, Beatrice, Wentworth, Desmond, Ringo, and Jonathan run across some Gri'ah who are hiring Vamps to either kidnap or kill people. Or possibly both. Jonathan drags Desmond off by the neck and is a responsible adult about everything.

Trivia

She was spicy.
  • When asked about the Willa Holland kiss, Alex Frost didn't say anything except "She tasted like Blazin' Buffalo".
  • Despite his on-screen romance, rumour has it that Frost may be switching to the other side for co-actor Zac Efron.
  • The writers weren't quite sure what to do with him after his creation, given his incongruity with the rest of the ensemble. And then they said, hey, there's Scout, she's a teenager. Let's create romance. That'll work, right? He's young, she's young. And...that's sorta it. Anyway it'll stop Desmond from chasing down and hunting all the monsters.
  • Desmond is a bit of a tree-hugging vegetarian.

Wanted

Well, if you're thinking of a new character and hope to tie him in to someone on the grid, you're welcome to PM, @Mail me, etc. I'm open to almost anything - Desmond has a father, mother, and siblings which can be molded into almost whatever you want. Also, old friends, demon hunter comrades, enemies, etc. are welcome.
