Background
The LeBlanc family has had a long history of non-interference in the day-to-day lives of the people that come into contact with it. From the arrival of Pierre and Daphne LeBlanc in 1854 to Providence, Rhode Island, the LeBlanc family is best known for simply keeping to themselves. That is their public facade. However, deep beneath the surface, the LeBlanc family have been neck deep in the occult for many, many years before that. Pierre and Daphne had one son, Alphonse, who married a local girl and had three children of their own: Alphonse the Second, Jules and Serge. Alphonse and Serge died unexpectedly before they reached each reached the age of sixteen. Jules married Sarah, a woman he had met on a trip to New York. Jules and Sarah were both contemporaries of Aleister Crowley in his time on the Hudson, staying on the small island on the Hudson River while settling the family home in Devilshire. In the 1940's, their son Xavier married and had had two sons named Andre and Vincent. Vincent married Elizabeth and thus Cody Xavier LeBlanc was born.
Cody has thus far lived a very rich, fulfilling, and painful life even at the relatively young age of 16 years old. His younger years were a mixture of calm normality and quite strange. A rich kid doubtlessly, but one with a fairly unique set of troubles all his own. First and foremost, the LeBlanc's have always been magical practitioners of various levels of commitment. Vincent and Elizabeth were happy to raise Cody along with the family traditions. He began learning of his magical heritage as soon as he was able to read, mostly under the tutelage of his father and mother but with appreciable help from his uncle Andre, who was a constant presence in his life.
Life as a young LeBlanc is one of scary secrecy. He knew he was being raised in a different manner than the kids at school, and this worried him slightly, alongside the fact that some of the things he was learning about were both strange and frightening. While his parents were content to ease him gently into the aspects of being a LeBlanc, his uncle (whom Cody from the age of 14 on believed needed to get a girlfriend big time) was more of a pushing mentor. A pushing mentor with a dark secret he fully intended to keep away from the eyes and ears of Cody's parents as he taught him.
Andre LeBlanc is the second son of Xavier LeBlanc, Cody's grandfather. In his own time, he became a very powerful sorcerer in his own right and began to have higher aspirations. Beginning with what was a simple magical circle of like-minded sorcerers, he had become the leader of a cult dedicated to raising the demon Sacon. Summoning Sacon was believed to be the Saconite's ticket to godhood in their own right. As Andre noticed Cody's budding magical talents, plans began to formulate within his head regarding the next move and that of his followers.
Cody took to the lesson plans like a fish to water, while not a strong conduit of magical energy by any means, his power has always stemmed from his insight into the nature of magic and the finesse it gives him to control it. While Cody spent a long, long time dedicating himself to the study of magic and the pursuit of the Occult, he also gave himself time for mundane endeavors such as leaning the guitar. The guitar turned out to be a great idea as it allowed him to bridge the high-school social gap between the intellectual nerds (which he somehow landed amongst) and the artistic dramatic/fine arts kids. He quickly became known around Devilshire as a young prodigy of a very specific subject: the occult.
On the eve of his 16th birthday, things between him and his uncle finally came to a head. As Cody stumbled across the mention of Sacon in his occult library, he noticed many of the rituals that are designed to begin channeling the enormous energies designed to summon Sacon. He studiously began reading into the parts the people played and how they interacted with the final ritual. He quickly found that he had the lead role in the production: the sacrifice. Committing the rest of the sacrifice to memory, he had no idea of the timing of the event until he head a bump in the night.
Too late! As his parents were out for the evening, the betrayal by Andre LeBlanc against Cody LeBlanc went unnoticed when the Saconites came to collect him. Before he could mount a defense, he found himself bound and being taken to the sight of the sacrifice, many miles into the forest outside of Devilshire. As he was set upon the pyre, his plan of escape came to fruition. His hands had been manacled behind him, allowing him to keep skin to skin contact with his uncle as he chanted away. As the dagger hovered above his heart, Cody said the last of the ritual and took his uncle down before all hell broke loose. Another application of magic brought his own hands free and the dagger into his hands. As his uncle crumpled forward, it was onto the pyre. A moment later, Cody use his uncle's own dagger to kill him off.
Little did he know that the ritual was already in place. When the dagger spilled the magical blood needed to pull Sacon into his world, the demon came in spite of the mistake. Running free, Cody was just barely able to escape in time before wraith descended upon the scene in the form of demon hunters. While most died, Cody escaped. Turning back to his book and the ritual summoning that just took place, Cody began his fervent search for the ritual to bind Sachon back to hell. His breaking into his Uncle's apartment helped, as he took control of quite a bit of Andre LeBlanc's library,
It was in this library that Cody discovered what he needed to know. Two artifacts, the Alaryn and the book of the Spiked Brace. Both are needed to remain in contact for Sachon to continue roving the Earth. Before the mess that was his uncle could even be cleaned up, Cody was on the hunt, razing the group his uncle had put together for info along with the help of the Japanese demon hunter whom he only knew as Watanabe. Finally, he got a break on the location. He was able to break the magical barriers on the storage room and then take out the cultist standing guard with the help of Watanabe.
It was quickly discovered that merely separating the Alaryn, a necklack holding a small bit of the demon's life force, and the book, a mystical account of its deeds, would merely weaken the demon. Once summoned fully to this worlds, the book and the locket had to be spread as far as possible. Finding the safest location to be a place which has housed artifacts for a multitude of years, Cody traveled as far as his resources would allow, deep into the Rocky Mountains, searching for most of the year until he found what he was looking for in the form of a large, deep cave. Committing the location to a rough map, he gave it to Watanabe and made the vow to never remove the necklace from himself lest the demon return.
While not powerful, Sachon didn't turn out to be powerless at all. Still very much in control of his cult, he meets with Cody every so often to meddle in the boy's affairs. When that fails, he sends a number of his cultists to strong-arm him. Sacon, at the heart, would like nothing more than to rip the information from Cody's brain by any means neccesary. This leaves him a dangerous foe, if indirectly. His parents are aware of the second part though, and have also proved to be valuable in keeping their son safe. Upon returning from his unexpected trip, Cody returned to Devilshire High school and utilized some creative magic to persuade the school system that he had been hospitalized in Atlanta for some time. Testing him, they found him reasonably intelligent enough to continue on with his class. At the time of this writing, Cody is a junior, having returned to Devilshire only one and a half weeks ago, where he is looking to once again attempt to return to the most normal life possible considering.
